My New Opinion about Rattan Dining Sets

The other day, I was at an estate sale and saw the most beautiful rattan dining room set. I had always thought of rattan as something very informal. I thought it was cheap looking. This set, however, was stunning. I loved the curves in the wood. It was stained a nice deep brown and was highly lacquered for a glossy finish. I was very surprised at the strength; it held up a thick piece of glass for the tabletop. The set had been sold already, so now I need to find one for my dining room.

I think the woman that had lived in the house had spent some time in the Far East. When I went out back to see the lawn furniture I was surprised that she had outdoor resin wicker furniture. Actually, I did not realize it was synthetic until the host explained to me that to have wicker furniture outside like that would destroy it unless is was made of resin instead of actual wicker. I think that may be why I always thought of it as cheap stuff. People put wicker outside and it fell apart.

I was not surprised when we went upstairs to find she had a wicker bedroom set too. I think it would make a lovely set for a teenage girl or guest bedroom. As a matter of fact, I decided on putting it in the spare bedroom upstairs now that my son has left for college. It really makes the room bright and cheerful.
