Tips for outdoor entertaining
When the weather is nice, there’s nothing quite like entertaining guests outdoors. Whether you’re hosting a BBQ, pool party, or just a casual get-together, here are a few tips to make sure your event is a success:
Make sure your outdoor space is clean and inviting. This means sweeping up any leaves or debris, and maybe even power washing your patio or deck. You want your guests to feel comfortable and welcome as soon as they arrive.
Create distinct areas for different activities. If you’re planning on having games, set up an area for that away from where people will be eating or relaxing. This way, people can move around and mingle without disrupting other activities.
Have plenty of seating. Nothing is worse than being at a party where you can’t find a place to sit. Make sure there are plenty of chairs and benches for people to use, and if possible, arrange them in groups so people can easily socialize. Some extra patio cushions never hurt either.
Keep the bugs at bay. No one wants to be swatting mosquitoes all night long. Set up citronella candles or torches around your outdoor space, and provide bug spray for your guests.
Offer a variety of food and drinks. While it’s always important to have plenty of non-alcoholic options, if you’re serving alcohol, make sure you have a variety of beer, wine, and spirits so there’s something for everyone.
Have fun! The most important part of any party is that the hosts are enjoying themselves. If you’re stressed out, your guests will pick up on that and won’t have a good time. Relax, mingle, and enjoy the company of your friends and family.
Outdoor entertaining can be a lot of work, but it’s also a great way to enjoy the summer weather. With a little planning and these tips in mind, you’re sure to throw a successful event that everyone will remember.
